Artistic Director's Notes:
Soon Hee Newbold is a bit of an anomaly in this evening's performances as she has a distinctive dual career. Not only is she a musician and composer, but she also works as an actor and a film producer. Her earliest experience as a professional musician was working for Disney, and I think this experience shows through her music, especially in Gravitas (Seriousness or solemn in manner). I see very distinct filmic images when I hear (and play) this piece and I think her experience in the film world shows through. She also brings a multi-ethnic background to her work - having been born in South Korea, but adopted and raised in the United States at a young age.
